Moon Cycle 158: 4/16 - 4/20
❖ MOON CYCLE 158 ❂ 04/16 - 04/20
Phase: 3/4 Waxing
Weather: Everything is looking pretty warm except for that slight dip towards the end of the week.
Legend:
☀ - Sunny/Clear | ☁☀ - Sunny but cloudy | ☁ - Overcast | ≈ - Windy | ☂ - Rainy | ☂☂ - Stormy | ☃ - Snowy | ❇ - Ice | + any other combination
Effects: Dreams of the future.
Notes:
Something is amiss? That's because there really is something causing the mass dreamscape to happen. Whatever it is, it's bound to cause trouble after everyone snaps out of it.
Duration of the event. As a heads up, the event will be taking place from April 21 to May 1.
Fourth wall? In addition, due to the awesomeness complexity of this AU, we're considering opening this up for a limited fourth wall. What this means is that those outside of the game will be allowed to participate BUT they will also be AU'ed. The only difference is they will have no idea what Hypnosia is and would have to rely on the current characterbase for info should they join their friend.
We do have one guarantee though.
We're throwing a poll to see what you guys think about opening this up as a kind of fourth wall event, too, and we're prepared for either scenario. It closes Wednesday, 11:59 pm.
The poll. Participation is not mandatory, but we'd like to hear from as many as possible! Otherwise we're going to assume that those who do not respond have no opinion. We also included options for those who are not sure, but might lean toward one or the other.
Feel free to leave further comments on this post.
Player Plots and things. We have a few things going on around the game prior to the event!
That should be it. Should you have any questions, feel free to ask them here! (Also, we had to use a paid journal because polls are paid only /cough. Don't mind this.)

- CR Meme. The bimonthly CR Meme will be up some time this week, so keep an eye out for that!
- Application Rules. We mods have decided to implement a new rule with regards to application samples. Though we are still allowing complete re-apps for characters you may have dropped in the past, we've decided to only permit this if the application was from the past 6 months.
What does this mean? It means if you applied for Character A on March, dropped them on May and re-apped them on July, then you wouldn't have to write a new sample. However, if you decide to app the character on October (or later), we will require a new first and third person sample for the application. This is only because we'd like to gauge the grasp you have on the character's voice and so the samples are fresh as well. - Dreaming of the future. Everyone has a dream of the future, whatever it may be. Perhaps someone wants to achieve their life's dream, or maybe they just want to settle down and be happy. Whatever it is, they are able to do so in their dreams! All dreams will focus on the happier possibilities that could unfold in their character's life.
Could all these happy dreams be a warning for what's to come?
Note: The dreams do not have to be a specific future and can be completely made it. Having them dream of a future they wish to have, whether it is possible or not, are totally A-OK! In addition, this is completely separate from the AU event. - AU Month. Over the past few years Somarium has had various AU events that have taken place around this time of the year. In 2010, characters were able to live their lives as long-time residents of Somarium. The year after that, many were able to live lives similar to the years of prohibition in the 1920s. Just last year, Somarium and Vatheon collaborated to bring forth a crossover event unlike anything you've seen before.
This year is no different. All the details to the event will be given out in the next 48 hours, but here's a rundown of what's going to happen. The only catch is that this AU event will take place in a dreamscape. Yes, you heard that right! Similar to the last full moon event, everything will be taking place inside a dream. While changes will not be permanent, the memories of what happens within the dreamscape will be retained.
So everyone hang tight because we will be going...- Deeper. Into the future, that is! However, it's going to be a grim one. Imagine six months from now everyone has the opportunity to return home. But then a year and a half later, their worlds are suddenly invaded by the nightmareish creatures found only in Hypnosia.
Prepare yourselves for the battle of the ages — to save your worlds.
In essence this AU will be set in not so distant future where characters are pulled back from their worlds into Hypnosia--or is it? In truth it will be another world entirely. In addition, not only will they be transported to a different world, but they will also have the chance to see what happened to everyone else's world. All of which have very bleak outlooks.
As said before, we'll be putting up a lot more details soon, but to get you all thinking, here are a few things all casts should start discussing:- Did you stay or go? In this AU's history, characters will have had the option to either stay in Hypnosia or return home. The choice is completely up to you so long as there is some IC reasoning it (i.e. Well he's dead at home, so he'd rather live here). If they stayed, what did they do while in Somarium? What did they end up doing when things started going south? Are they part of the new Rebel group?
- Fate of their world. Due to the invasion, your characters' canon world will have changed in some way. What has happened to it? What does it look like? You will be able to create an open log that others could visit, too.
- Characters almost two years later. Your character has been sent back, but all this time they had no memory of Somarium. It's only when the invasions start that they start to recall them. So how has your character developed since then? This is AU and a lot of liberal creativity is allowed, but stick close to canon as possible.
- Dead characters. What if your character left, not knowing they would die or died in canon? They will be resurrected upon returning to Somarium. This is only applicable for characters who actually die in canon.
- Opt-out. Because this is set in a dreamscape, only those participating will be trapped dreaming the whole time. For those who do not wish to participate in the event, they can remain awake and normal. They will notice that most everyone is once again trapped in a dream and, if so desire, can try to find a way to bring them back.
- Did you stay or go? In this AU's history, characters will have had the option to either stay in Hypnosia or return home. The choice is completely up to you so long as there is some IC reasoning it (i.e. Well he's dead at home, so he'd rather live here). If they stayed, what did they do while in Somarium? We do have one guarantee though.
- Former Players/Old Characters. Players and characters who've already dropped from the game will be able to join in on the fun! As mentioned earlier, they will also be AU'ed so be sure to iron out possible canon details with them, should they be interested.
We're throwing a poll to see what you guys think about opening this up as a kind of fourth wall event, too, and we're prepared for either scenario. It closes Wednesday, 11:59 pm.

- SPR Meeting: Let's find a way to get out of here! Kazuya is holding a meeting at the SPR headquarters discuss a few theories and proposals as to how everyone could work to leave Somarium. It occurred over the weekend, so if you're interested, join in here!
- A formal ball. Serenity is holding a ball this Saturday, April 20 and everyone is invited to attend! The invitation was announced over the network.

tl;dr please advise.

Actual canon events that happened during the time skip would have to be accounted for. So for instance, if everyone came from the middle of a canon and there is actual material beyond those canon points, you would have to incorporate. It's once you start running out of canon material that you're allowed to make up things (which is what most people will likely have to do).
Hope that helps! Like I said we'll explain it better on the actual post, but questions like these will definitely help us format it and catch these issues before we roll the final thing.

Better to keep it as simple as possible (and with this event being complicated as it is, need all the simple points as we can get).
no subject
I completely forgot about that until being reminded, sorry! I really appreciate how clear you're being.

As for those who come back—let me get back to you on that once I talk it over with the others.

example: with the Kyou Kara Maou cast, Yuuri is from the currently still ongoing novels (which have a very limited amount of translations available and are what's considered "canon" for the series overall, since the novels came first); Wolfram is from early in the third season of the anime, and Sara is from the end of the third season, which is the end of the anime... so yes. The third season was partly anime original so there's that too - Sara appears in both the novels and the anime, but what happens with him (and characters involved with him, including Yuuri and Wolfram) is pretty different across versions.
(so would Yuuri be 1.5+ years into the future of the novels timeline, Wolfram 1.5+ years into the future from his canon point of the anime timeline... etc.? or would it have to be 1.5+ years into the future of the novels timeline overall?)
Sorry for the confusion!
no subject
As for the actual canon point, it's the point from the character who is the most recent. So in your case with Wolfram and Sara, they would BOTH be 1.5+ years from the end of the anime timeline.
I hope that helps!

that's what I was thinking, actually. Thank you very much for the clarification!

I have a character who ICly would choose to go back, if given the choice, but I literally can't do that because the canon is ongoing and I have no idea what would happen in the ~2 years. John might meet Mary Morstan (future wife) in that timespan, Sherlock might come back (and reveal that he faked his suicide) in that timespan. Either or both of these events are kind of a big deal and I have no idea how they will play out in canon. Or who knows, maybe neither of these will happen. There's no way of telling.
Similar problems arise when the future timelines in canons are unpredictable, unavailable, untranslated, etc.
My question is, what's to be done in cases like this?
And my suggestion is for there to be some sort of opt-in IC barrier that keeps certain characters from leaving.
no subject
Does that help?
As for an opt-in IC barrier, I think we might be able to work out something (or at least I have an idea that I'll throw to the others).
no subject
For the dreams that show the future, would we have to headcanon a scene in their future or can this option only be done with those muses where we know have a specific future?

There is a lot more of his manga out past the canon point I took him from, but it's not translated in English. I have read some spoilers, but not enough to really create a good idea of things that happened with, and I have no idea where HE specifically would be at that point. It'd be an awful lots of bullshitting to come up with a future in his world, and it'd probably contradict the canon a lot.
no subject
What is most important to remember is that while characters will retain memories at the end of the event, they won't actually be canon updated. They may question if what they experienced was real or just a very whacked up dream. So with that plus the fact that this is AU, in such cases it is perfectly fine to be creative and make up whatever is necessary.

Is this even coherent? IDEK.

However, it is possible for us to make it so that what exactly is remembered could also be fudged. For instance, Togami could remember that he was pulled from a future point and that he had been in the AU world, but he might not remember the future he experienced.

I'm also throwing the possibility of characters not remembering their futures at all, and thus the only thing they would be allowed to remember are: 1) their world was invaded in the future, and 2) whatever they did when they were pulled into the AU. Any specifics of their future would be gone or blurred to the point that it only gives off that deja vu feeling.
We'll have the final verdict on how to handle the memories on the official post, so keep a look out for that!

1) You could technically assume he has been there since the start and just backtag; OR
2) Have him come in late and ICly play it like he had been held up dealing with things in his world or that he was just pulled in late.
no subject
wrong account, but this is the soushi player.
1) Is the "Dreaming of the future" event connected to the AU event or is it a completely separate event?
If it is, then in the "Dreaming of the Future" event, does a character have to dream about their canon future or can they dream of the future they wish to have?
I am definitely getting confused between the two events....
2) For the AU event, do we have to play from the latest chapters of the canon itself or the canon mate that is the furthest in the current canon?
I am asking about this because in Inu x Boku SS (known as Youko x Boku SS), there has been a lot of time loops and changes in time (which can be considered an AU of the original story all ready). Right now, in chapters 37 -- 39, the story returned to the original timeline that our cast is currently at; however, chapter 10 -- 18 has been erased due to the result of chapters 37 -- 39. Which means that our current characters which a large majority are from around chapter 18 have technically never happened, so...how will it be handled in this event?
I will ask my third question once I have these two answered first. I really hope you understand it because it was hard to put it in words my questions. D8

1) The dream effect is sort of connected in that it's just related to the AU event theme. The dream effect itself is NOT part of the event. They also do not have to dream of a canon future—a future that they wish is perfectly fine (and intended actually...I should look at the wording on this, hm.)
2) ....Oh boy, uh. Hmmm. Generally the timeline will be set 1.5+ years after the most recent canon point of the character in-game. If there's someone in the 37-39 mark then you can opt to go back to the 10-18 time.
Lord I have no idea if that made sense. Basically in your case, it would be acceptable for you to disregard the time loop for the sake of everyone's sanity.
no subject
Also. I am so sorry for asking all these questions because the current canon is going through a lot of time changes and it is just a complicated mess right now. Today I just got the recent chapter of inuboku and it ended in a cliff hanger. D8 A CLIFF HANGER THAT IS MAKING ME HIT MY WALL. Think of the Pandora Hearts type of twists that left the fans flipping tables syndrom (it doesn't help the mangakas of both PH and Inu x Boku SS are known best friends too).
As for my third question, how will death exactly work for canons where all the characters die? Like for example, I took Soushi from chapter 18 before he was beheaded, so technically in 1.5 years he will be....barely born since once he dies he will reincarnate a year later. Yes. It is an insane canon.
Soushi has no reason to remain in Somarium even if he does learn over his death because he would only care over following after Ririchiyo (who also dies and isn't in Somarium). How will it work? Will Soushi be given a second chance because I read somewhere about resurrection, so....how will it work? I just want to know how death will be handled in this event.
